Often times we view movies in the context of the time they are released. What were we doing, how did the movie relate to our lives . . . THEN. These 3 films are rich with meaning -- what will they mean to us now? Have their messages changed our time? Who did we identify with then . . . and now? We hope that revisiting these films will revitalize discussions. Regardless, they're all great movies!
A 1980 film by Akira Kurosawa. The title which literally translates to "Shadow Warrior" is a term used for an impersonator. It is set in the warring states era of Japanese history and tells the story of a lower class criminal who is taught to impersonate a dying warlord in order to dissuade oppossing lords from attacking the newly vulnerable clan.

Meet 8/10, 8/17 & 8/24. At first applied only against the federal government, we will see how the First Amendment came to be applied to the States as well. The Amendment contains four expression clauses and two religious clauses. With the exception of the Establishment of Religion clause, the story of the First Amendment is the struggle to balance the protections it affords against the need of government to regulate that which it protects. The Establishment Clause is a struggle of deciding what it means. This has led the Supreme Court into a swamp of conflicting definitions that, it can be argued, have hurt religion in the United States.

The War on Terror – Part Two Panel Discussion NEW |

10 - 11:30am |

|
34 Seats Available
Instructor: Dr. M. Keith Nadel & Panel
Resident Fee: $0.00
Non-resident Fee: $5.00
Terror was launched millennia ago by the thundering armies and conquests of the Kublai Kahn followed by a resettlement hiatus during which the future of civilization was forecast. Then the British in their conquest of the New World overplayed their hand and the United States united for survival. Later our shores were invaded the Nazi submarines and our shipping lanes terrorized; and on September 11, 2001, destruction of our centers of trade in NYC and the Pentagon attack touched our hearts and seared America’s soul. This was the enemy without.
The enemy within, our own citizens, are now striking terror in our heartlands. This mighty colossus, this embodiment of the Age of Enlightenment, this Beacon of The Freedoms has been challenged; can it withstand these repeated challenges from without and within and maintain Super Power status?
As suggested by the Far Right, should we morph from Common Laws to the Napoleonic Code, temporarily suspend the Bill of Rights and Constitutional Amendments and replace our three branches of governance with a unicameral one along the lines of the PRC? At what price is survival? No, you disagree? OK, then what do you suggest? Just wait for your neighbor to park his SUV near your home? Your call. Listen to our panel discussion and interact.

TSN Airbase was an extremely important facility. It was located on the outskirts of Saigon and was the largest airbase in the RVN (12 mile perimeter). It was headquarters for the RVN Joint Staff, the RVN Air Force and the top US military headquarters (MACV) in Viet Nam. HQ MACV alone had 4,000 staff officers and enlisted men and was nicknamed "Pentagon East.” TSN was also the gateway for most US troops coming to Viet Nam and the place they left from at the end of their tour of duty. Tet was such a huge event that the story of what happened at TSN Airbase was largely overlooked.
