Join professional archaeologist Dr. Willet Boyer and his staff as they continue their local “dig”. Classes will be “in the field” three days a week from 8-11 AM (you will decide on your scheduled days with the instructor). This project is designed to teach the fundamentals of archaeology as well as provide history and theory. It is “hands on” and requires a degree of physical stamina. The Winter 2010 sessions were an unqualified success. You are encouraged to attend a general information class on June 30, 2010 1-2pm in Live Oak Hall to get all the details. Registrants will have an orientation July 1, August 1 or September 1 for the Summer sessions. This is an outstanding opportunity for you to learn and discover our past. Students can sign for a month at a time.

With Sholom Park as our ever-changing, beautiful studio you will select your subject after a short instructor demonstration. You will spend the majority of time developing your painting while the instructor comes around to provide individual instruction. Our emphasis this time will be on capturing light and shadow quickly. Information to improve perspective, composition and color theory will be explored along with quick fixes and finishing touches. Osteoporosis is a progressive disease that causes bones to become thin and porous, significantly increasing the risk of spine and hip fractures. In this presentation, wildlife biologist Craig Faulhaber will describe the life history of this charismatic, family-oriented species and the unique high and dry habitat known as scrub. The Adult CPR and Defibrillation class provides the knowledge and skills necessary to help out in critical situations. Taught by certified instructor, Norm Scott, this 4-hour training concludes with a test that can result in certification. (Note: This course will incorporate the new requirements for CPR. Do you have any questions about your medications that you would like to have answered? Once a month from 10-11 am, the University of Florida College of Pharmacy Pharm.D. Candidates will be available to answer your questions about all of your medications, including prescriptions, over-the-counter products and herbal supplements. The students can provide you with information about uses, side effects, precautions, drug interactions, lower cost alternatives, and how to properly take your medication. Attendees will receive individual counseling on a first come, first serve basis. Bringing a list of all of you current medications will help the students give you the best information. NOTE: The information provided should never be used to change your medication regimen without first consulting with your physician or pharmacist.

The first project will be a hanging treat box.  It will adorn a wine bottle or water bottle.  It can hold candy, lemonade packs, a cheese knife, granola bar...whatever you wish. For the second project we will create a box with a window to peek inside. It can be used for a gift of almost anything you can imagine.  Perhaps candy, jewelry, tea, tags, perfume. Both of these items make great hospitality gifts--for a birthday, anniversary or party favors.  You will think of many ways to use these boxes. Be sure to bring your lunch and we will take a break at noon. All levels of experience are welcome, even beginners.
